Greenysearch was created to save energy and the environment by reducing the brightness of your monitor and the power that it subsequently uses.

greenysearch.com was first conceived in 2009 and is a direct response to the escalating presence of the internet and the subsequent environmental impact it causes. There are many green issues that accompany the growing digital world, but the one addressed by greenysearch is that of the power consumed by the monitors that millions of people use to access their online world.

As of June 2009 almost 25% of the worlds population uses the internet, that’s a staggering 1.6 billion individuals, and it’s growing at an alarming rate. An average TFT monitor consumes 75 watts in normal use, when you also consider that the average U.S. citizen spends 10hrs a month online a month you get a total of 750 watt hours per individual per month.

It has been estimated that if Google set it’s home page with a black background there would be a 900 megawatt-hours saving in energy. That’s the amount of energy that the whole of New York city consumes in about 15 minutes.
