I’m with PPL electric in Williamsport, PA and want to switch to Alt Energy. Anyone know how much I could save?

Energy’s like nuclear, biomass, hydro, hydrogen, solar, wind and others need to be developed to supplement traditional sources. Should and how should the government play a role?

I just started College and I’m going the chemistry major route. I’m looking into physics but wasn’t sure if that would teach me all I wanted to know. I’d like to know as much as possible about green energies, agriculture, oceanography, and basically everything required to make a biosphere. Sadly there are no Biosphere science classes.. So I’m gonna start with energy. Any suggestions?

We are very keen to go green and self sufficient with the electrical energy we use in our home. What are the costs of doing this compared to buying electricity from the national grid?

There are many alternative energy sources out there, but none that are readily available, cheaper then gas, and easy to retrofit on an automobile. Electric cars are great but have you seen any recharging facilities near your home? No.

Is Ethanol the answer? I read that Brazil is using sugar cane for bio-fuel. Be it corn, soybeans, or sugar cane, growing bio-fuels will strongly deplete our soils without using heavy fertilizers. Can we possibly harness wind and solar power for all our energy sources? Some of these technologies may exist, but they are not being allowed to be used. Even a car that runs on water.

I’m trying to figure out the major I want for college and I’ve figured I want to do something with the booming business of energy. I’m looking into engineering professions that deal with it but I don’t know which field is more envi friendly.
